It just sounds right

Popped these into my 1995 Epiphone Sheraton it was like they breathed new life into this guitar. The clarity and articulation can not be overstated and it just sounds so good. I don’t have a better way to describe but I will say I just love the way it sounds and look forward to playing it now.

PAF pickups with an attitude!

For years, my favorite pickups for semi-hollow body guitars have been Seymour Duncan Seth Lovers. I love their tone. But playing live, the SLs expose a limitation. They are unpotted and microphonic. This was also true of the original Ibanez Super 58s that came with the AM93, (which were replaced by the Seth Lovers). Given how much I loved the P-90 soapbars in my LP Special, (and based on a previous DAF review),I decided to give the DAFs a shot. I am so glad I did! It is difficult to compare the DAFs with SLs. The DAFs have more body. My luthier describes them as "full and mean". The neck pickup is nice and round and has more throatiness than the SL neck. The bridge (and as a rule I hate bridge pickups) is neither thin nor harsh. In fact, I could imagine them sounding really nice with an Acoustic Simulator. With the tone down a little they actually sound very nice strummed. In the middle position, the pickups sound great! I cannot come up with a better description. There is much more in the middle than the SLs gave me. I love the SLs, remember. I am just blown away. These are not hot pickups, though. They are lower output like vintage pickups usually are. But the mean is there. It's quite amazing. Semi-hollow body guitars are often made of maple (mine are) and that is a brighter tone wood than mahogany. Also, my semi-hollows are of the ES-339 (14" body size) so I am usually looking for ways to darken the sound up a bit. The neck pickup is dark enough to accomplish this. I am exceedingly happy that I bought the DAFs. I purchased a second set that are destined for my D'Angelico semi-hollow. Thanks, Dylan!

Whoa!

I was not expecting the great sound I got out of these, but truly a professional sound pickup. I had an old 60's Ventura (Japan) guitar that was my first, so I wanted to rebuild it. The DAF's and the wiring kit with the .022mfd caps work great together. I did think I was getting CTS pots but got Bourns instead, not a big deal, I used them. I would certainly use these over standard Gibson pickups, much better sound and growl when you want it. Very happy.
