Had Gibson P90’s in the guitar previously. These have a much more balanced and responsive sound. Impressed by the range of sounds I can get. Very sweet, full tones when they are clean. And the sound you can get when they not clean is amazing. More top and bottom than a humbucker. More guts than a Strat single coil. It gives me that sound I couldn’t quite get with my other guitars. They have characteristic P90 noise, so plan to live with that or take steps (noise gate or reduce) to reduce it. The NS-1x on my board removed the noise but left the good stuff in place.
I've tried at least 4 different P-90 brands. Dylan is right, these are the best. I would give them 6 stars if I could. I've tried Seymour-Duncans- (too harsh), Gibsons P-90s- (too noisy), DiMarzio - (too Meh), Cheap ones off of Amazon - (don't even ask). Even the Luthier that installed them for me said: "Damn, those P-90s sound pretty F-ing great, who makes them ?. Lol
I also use the DTT p90 in Nashville tuning. The clarity and frequency range allow me to use a POG to push it up an octive into mandolin/fiddle range. This pickup handles the higher frequencies extremely well. Play inverted chords with that, cowboy chords with a J45 and add a Strat for leads is totally awesome. The DTT p90 sounds the best of all my guitars when using the POG. Hands down.
I use different pickups for different ensembles. The DTT P90 is probably the most flexible pickup I have. I had a short learning curve, but it fits any guitar part. My favorite ensemble for the p90 is with an accoustic 6 string and piano. But they fit in a mix for any genre with a little tone/volume knob adjustment. I am familiar with the p90s in a Gibson gold top. I think the DTT version is significantly more clear and less "ice picky" than the Gibson version.
I finally replaced the stock pickups in my 2016 Epiphone ES-339 P90 Pro with Dylan's P90 Soap bar pickups. The difference is not slight! The clarity, warmth and response make me want to play this guitar nonstop. The original pickups were a bit "tinny" to my ears and I rarely played this guitar prior to the replacement. I'm incredibly satisfied and the hype is real.
